Most patients self refer often having had a practitioner recommended to them by other patients. Another complementary healthcare professional or GP may recommend osteopathy. GP referral is not necessary, unless you have private healthcare insurance. Last year about 80% of patients were recommended by friends and family or were referred by their GP.
Private Health Insurance
Most health insurance companies will provide cover for osteopathic treatment.
Please check the following with your insurance company:
- Do you need a GP referral?
- Check any excess payable and the amount you can claim.
- Please bring your membership details and any authorisation codes with you on your first visit.
NB: Bupa and AXA PPP patients can only be seen by Elizabeth Hardy
Osteopathy and the NHS
Osteopathy is not available on the NHS at this practice.
(Osteopathy remains principally a form of private healthcare with more than 80% of patients funding their own treatment. The profession is developing stronger links with the NHS and is hoping to see wider access to publicly funded osteopathic services in the future.)
